2024 SunCable BAFL Senior Women's and Men's Round 10 and 12 Recap

BAFL

Round 10 of the 2024 SunCable Women’s Barkly Australian Football League saw the Epenarra Saints maintain their push for a top-two finish with a hard-fought win. In a low-scoring encounter, Epenarra triumphed thanks to standout performances from Sophie Lewis, Deborah Dickenson, Glenys Peterson, and Pammy Foster.

Defensively, the Saints were exceptional, successfully neutralising Ali Curung's scoring threats. Despite their solid defence, Epenarra struggled with accuracy in front of goal, managing only three goals and seven behinds. With finals just three rounds away, sharpening their accuracy will be crucial for their premiership aspirations.

Ali Curung, though defeated, had notable performances from Jemika Beasley and Carnisha Brown, who worked tirelessly throughout the match.

In round 12 of the Men’s competition, YDU narrowly escaped a late scare from the Elliott Hawks to secure a vital win that keeps them in contention for first place. Elliott, led by Antonio Sandy and captain Kurt Raymond, who kicked two goals, made a strong push. Gary Hogan also contributed significantly, while Phillip O’Keefe's performance against YDU's Lyndon Chungaloo was a highlight.

YDU’s Lemiah Brown combined effectively with Chungaloo to create scoring chances for Ishmael Nandy, who delivered with five goals. Eliah Billy-Joe was instrumental in YDU's eight-point victory, securing their position in the top tier.

In a thrilling clash, Ali Curung overtook the Spitfires for third place on the ladder with a narrow three-point victory. A slow start saw Ali Curung trailing by 16 points, but Nicky Poulson and Asten Ross sparked a comeback. Their efforts, alongside goals from Jayden Price, Jerome Haines, and Ethan Wilson, turned the tide.

The final term resembled a finals match, with both teams exchanging goals. Ultimately, Ali Curung’s three behinds in the last quarter proved decisive. Despite the loss, the Spitfires' Tyreake Banjo was exceptional, and Damian Bahr Kelly and Faron James demonstrated composure in high-pressure moments.
