Teams have been revealed ahead of the highly anticipated 2024 Michael Long Cup, this weekend at TIO Stadium. The annual event hosted over two days will showcase some of the best young Northern Territory talent, with the four competing teams named in honour of recent AFL/ AFLW draftees from the Northern Territory.
Team Bush honours Ashanti Bush, the eighth pick in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft. Originating from Beswick, a small Indigenous community approximately 80 kilometres east of Katherine, Bush has made a notable impact in the AFLW with the SUNS. Her highlight includes scoring the AFLW Goal of the Year in Season 7.
Team Kievit is named after Annabel Kievit, who was selected by the Gold Coast SUNS with pick 52 in December of 2023. Kievit made waves in the TIO NTFL, impressing as a standout player for Waratah.
On the men’s side, Team Johnston is named in honour of Lloyd Johnston, a rising star with the Gold Coast SUNS. Johnston, who debuted in 2023, captured hearts with his memorable first AFL goal at TIO Stadium earlier this year.
Team Rowlands is named after William Rowlands, chosen by the Gold Coast SUNS with pick 18 in the 2023 AFL Rookie Draft. Rowlands has demonstrated exceptional skill with the Southern Districts Crocs in the NTFL and has earned numerous spots in the Allies squad.
The revamped format for this year’s Michael Long Cup includes two matches for each team, scheduled for Friday, August 23, and Saturday, August 24. Football fans can look forward to an exciting showcase of emerging talent as these teams compete at TIO Stadium.
In addition to the matches played, the 2024 Michael Long Cup will offer a comprehensive camp-style experience. Players will have the unique opportunity to engage in a range of activities, including wellbeing education sessions, prep to play programs, gym technique workshops, and football skill sessions.
Participants will also be introduced to the Cazalys NT Talent Academy values, training standards, expectations to commence their talent journey. This complete approach aims to foster both the physical and mental aspects of young athletes' development.

Team Rowlands v Team Johnston – 3:30pm, TIO Stadium
