Tiwi Bombers Visit the Northern Territory Library

The Northern Territory Library will be hosting a visit from AFL NT’s Tiwi Bombers this Saturday, 16 January 2010.

Northern Territory Library Director Jo McGill said the team members will learn to access the wealth of historical information available at the Library.

"The Tiwi Bombers take part in a range of social and educational activities before their matches in Darwin and we’re delighted they’re coming to visit us," Ms McGill said.

"Northern Territory Library staff will be running some training sessions for the Tiwi Bombers on how to search newspapers online, access family history resources and use the Territory Stories and Our Stories databases.

"The Territory Stories database features many documents, photos, videos and audio files that are historically and culturally significant in recording the development of the Northern Territory.

"By understanding how to use these Library resources we hope the team will have a unique insight in to the history of the Northern Territory.

Ms McGill said the Northern Territory Library also has an important range of Tiwi-related historical material.

"Players will even be able to contribute to this material by putting their own stories up on to the Our Story website and encouraging members of their community to do likewise.

"The Our Story project enables the team to connect with their history in a simple and direct manner, and aims to inspire pride in young people about their heritages," Ms McGill said.

"The two Local Knowledge Centre Libraries located in the Tiwi Islands that feature the Our Story database will make access easy for the team when they return home."

The Tiwi Bomber’s visit this Saturday, 16 January 2010 will be between 10am and 1pm, and will also include a tour of Parliament House.
