Volunteer Appreciation Round kicked off the 2024 SunCable Barkly Australian Football League (BAFL) Women’s competition, a celebration of our tireless volunteers who go the extra mile to support clubs both on and off the field.
The first scheduled match up was YDU taking on Ali Curung however, a forfeit was recorded.
The next match up took place between the Spitfires and Elliott that went down to the wire in a low scoring affair.
Elliot started off the game in good spirits with the Spitfires held to just one goal in the first half whilst Elliott slotted two with three missed opportunities that could have had the result secured by half time.
However, it was the Spitfires who flipped the script keeping Elliott to just the one goal in the second half whilst Spitfires put up three goals to snag a five-point win at Purkiss reserve.
It was the captain in Taneal Croydon who lifted with two captain’s goals. Rachel Baker and Dayna Dowling also securing a major each. Vice-Captain Keara Baker-Storey was credited with the best on ground with Deja Wortley also named as one of the best on the day.
Captain of Elliott, Cassariah Kenny put her foot forward with a goal, with contributions from Amelia Godilla and Sylvania Shannon-Kenny also on the scoreboard. Sheron Murphy was considered one of the best on ground for Elliott with Kayla Costello, Nishanaye Thompson, Lesteisha Timothy, Peta Jackson with all having an influence on the match.
The SunCable Barkly Senior Men’s divisions start on Saturday the 4 May 2024.
