AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) is excited to announce former AFL footballer, Brent Renouf was appointed the Cazalys NT Thunder Academy Coach.
Renouf has a history of playing at the AFL’s top level after being drafted by Hawthorn with selection 24 in the 2006 AFL National Draft. He went on to become a Premiership player with the Hawks in 2008 before also spending time playing for Port Adelaide until 2014.
Along with his elite playing experience, Renouf transitioned to coaching Territory talents. In recent times, he has been appointed Senior Coach at TIO Northern Territory Football League Men’s Premier League level and has also spent time as an Assistant Coach with NT Thunder.
AFLNT Talent Manager Simon Hargrave said Renouf impressed right throughout the selection process and had the experience to back him up.
“Brent’s experience, knowledge and passion to develop juniors as displayed in previous coaching roles holds him in great stead to take the reins of Cazalys NT Thunder Talent programs,” he added.
“He knows what incredible talent the Territory produces and is looking forward to building on the skills our young talents have to give them the best opportunity to take their footy as far as they can.”
Renouf said he looked forward to returning to full-time football and guiding aspiring players in the NT.
“I see this opportunity as a long-term commitment to fostering junior development and help our future footy stars get to the highest level possible,” he said.
“There is so much talent both in the male and female spaces right across the NT that displays our exciting brand of footy.
“I am thrilled to explore the talent we have Territory-wide and can’t wait to get stuck into it!”
Renouf commenced his role on Monday 31 January 2022.
