AFLNT Statement on COVID lockout and lockdown

Statement

The Northern Territory Government announced a 72-hour lockout in Greater Darwin and lockdown in the Greater Katherine from 12.01am on Friday 5 November due to the COVID pandemic.

Details on Northern Territory Government Lockout and Lockdown Restrictions can be found here

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) has suspended all its planned football activity across the Top End inclusive of TIO Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) junior and senior matches and training until further notice and such time the competition can unequivocally comply with Northern Territory Government restrictions and safely resume.

AFLNT is working with NTFL Club Presidents, and other competition stakeholders in regard to what this means for community football matches fixtured during this period and will continue to be guided by advice from the Government, health authorities and Land Councils.

Although this may be disappointing to some who were looking forward to a fixtured Tiwi Bombers home game on Bathurst Island on Saturday and Eddie Betts debuting for the Palmerston Magpies on Sunday, the health and safety of the community remains the highest priority.

AFLNT will update stakeholders with any new information regarding restrictions and protocols for community football, when available.

If the Territory football community ever had a reason to get vaccinated, we have it now.

Community football, in particular the NTFL, relies heavily on the hard work and support of a large volume of stakeholders including umpires, volunteers, coaches, players, administrators and spectators.

As such, in order to adequately protect our game and the broader community, we encourage our stakeholders to get vaccinated if you can.

Those who are yet to decide if you will be vaccinated, please seek the best medical advice for your personal circumstances so you can make an informed decision.

For more information and to book in your vaccination, visit the Northern Territory Government website here or Danila Dilba Health Service’s website here.

It is important to stay home and get tested if you are feeling unwell or have had any contact with a person from any Government Declared hotspots or exposure sites in the last 14 days.

It is also important to practice good hygiene at all times – keep up the hand washing and use of soap, as well as sanitiser.

We encourage you to download and use the Government’s Territory Check In and COVIDSafe app and make sure they are up and running before you leave your house.

AFLNT will update stakeholders with any new information regarding restrictions and protocols for community football, when available.

The Darwin AFLNT Office will be closed until further notice.
