AFLNT launches 4 week all Women’s Coaching Development Program

AFL Northern Territory is thrilled to unveil details about a brand new 4-week Women’s Coaching Development Program set to commence this June in line with AFL’s Women’s Coaching Month.

Commencing on Wednesday 12 June 2024, this immersive program is designed for new and emerging female coaches, offering a comprehensive exploration into the world of coaching.

Each week, participants will engage in a focused session covering fundamental coaching principles, the connection of female health and its impact on sports performance, practical on-field components, injury prevention strategies, and preparation for female athletes. These sessions promise to be both informative and enriching, with a singular session scheduled per week.

Upon successful completion of the 4-week program, participants will earn AFL accreditation as Level One Foundation Coach and officially begin their coaching pathway.

Speakers such as Shannon Millar, Cazalys NT Academy Talent Manager, Physiotherapist, Bridie Duggan, and Rob Moore, High-Performance Coach, will share their expertise, providing invaluable insights into the coaching landscape.

Participants will have the unique opportunity to shadow live coaching sessions alongside the esteemed Cazalys NT Talent Academy, gaining firsthand exposure to coaching dynamics and live drills.

In anticipation of the upcoming TIO NTFL Season, program participants will become integral members of a broader female coaches network, facilitating ongoing mentorship and networking opportunities.

This program is open to females aged 16 and above and will be hosted at the esteemed Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre and TIO Stadium.

We are proud to announce that this initiative is supported by BHP. The BHP and AFL partnership focuses on developing girls and women who want to play, coach, umpire and administer our game, and encourage the men and broader community to be advocates and allies in this space. The partnership is a holistic one that focuses on promoting leadership, inclusion, equality and wellbeing, recognizing that progression for women is what’s best for the community.

Join us for an enriching and rewarding journey as we embark on this endeavour to empower and elevate female coaches in our community.

Spots for the 4-week Women’s Coaching Program are now filled.
