Appointment of new Head of AFLNT

AFLNT

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) is pleased to announce that Sam Gibson has been appointed to the role of Head of AFLNT.

Gibson has been elevated to the role after joining AFLNT in August as Stadia, Facilities and Government Manager, and replaces Stuart Totham who recently departed to pursue a career opportunity outside of the football industry.

Gibson came to AFLNT with a strong background in sports administration, having most recently led Tennis NT for eight years. Prior to that he’d worked in NT Government roles and holds a Bachelor of Business and Sport Administration.

AFL Executive General Manager Game Development, Rob Auld, said: "I wish to congratulate Sam on his appointment. Sam has been very impressive since joining AFLNT and we believe he has the right mix of experience, skill and local knowledge to step up and take AFLNT forward.

“There are tremendous opportunities for Territory football to grow and thrive, so to have someone of Sam’s calibre take on the Head of AFLNT role is a great thing for the game.”

AFLNT Chair, Sean Bowden, said: “Sam has done a great job transitioning into the Territory football space after commencing his role as Stadia, Facilities and Government Manager and has already built excellent relationships with stakeholders, both internally and externally.

“I have no doubt Sam will effectively lead the AFLNT team while also ensuring Territory football remains the biggest and most impactful sport in communities across the NT.”

Gibson said he is excited about the opportunity to lead AFLNT: “This role brings with it tremendous responsibility and I would like to thank the AFL and the AFLNT Board for this fantastic opportunity.

“Football in the Territory has incredible history and is in a great position for future success. We are focused on ensuring that we maintain and strengthen the game’s prominent position across the NT, for the benefit of communities and all stakeholders involved in Territory football.”

Gibson will transition into the role immediately.
