AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) is thrilled to crown the best and fairest players, as well as the leading goalkickers from the youth divisions of the 2022/23 TIO NTFL season.

After each game during the season, the field umpires voted 3-2-1 for who they deemed to be the best players of the game. Throughout the home and away season the votes were tallied and any player who did not serve a match suspension is eligible to win the division’s respective best and fairest medal.

Each team entered their goalkickers after each game, and the leading goalkicker for the division is the player who kicked the most goals after the last round of the home and away season.

Named best on by coaches, in 12 out of 13 appearances, young crocodile Brodie Grace took out the Abala Medal for the best and fairest player in the Under 18 Boys division.  With 17 votes in total, Grace polled well in the early rounds of the season and managed to maintain the top spot ahead of Nightcliff’s Adrian Scott who finished runner-up on 12 votes.

Warrick Campbell from Palmerston Magpies booted 28 majors for the season, the highlight coming from the round 9 win over Southern Districts where he slotted 5 goals.

In the NAWIC Under 18 Girls division, Marika Carlton from Palmerston Magpies achieved an incredible feat, taking out the Under 18 Girls' best and fairest medal, as well as simultaneously securing the Under 16 Sharyn Smith, best and fairest medal.

At just 15 years old, Marika polled 15 votes to take out the Under 18 Girls medal. Her strong performances from Rounds 12 – 17 put her 3 votes ahead of joint runners-up, teammate Sienna Kelly and Imogen Foxchaffer from the Nightcliff Tigers.

After winning last years, Under 14s Girls leading goal kicker medal, Bonnie Brown from Southern Districts took out the Under 18 Girls Leading goal kicker medal with her haul of 20 goals for the season.

2022/23 Junior Umpire of the Year, Lachlan Ammerlaan was recognised for his strong dedication to umpiring in his debut season.

In Under 16 Hickman, Darwin Buffaloes Tyrese Turner took out the Best and Fairest award with 16 votes. While Nightcliff’s Connor Gallacher won the leading goal kicker for the grade, tallying 26 goals for the season.

Wanderers dominated the Under 16 Leverence tallies with Darren Roberts awarded Best and Fairest Medal and Davis White winning the leading goal scorer booting 35 goals.

St Mary’s Shakaila Gardiner-Dunn proved the Dunn goal-scoring name lives on, booting 30 goals for the season and taking home the Under 16 Girls Leading goal kicker medal.

Buffaloes Marquell Albert won the Under 14 Gundersen Best and Fairest medal and Malakai LeRosssignol slotted 28 goals for the Palmerston Magpies, awarding him the divisions leading goal kicker medal.

With 25 votes, Leo Wedel from PINT took out the Under 14 Lew Fatt Best and Fairest medal, and C-Jay Bryan from Waratah tallied 12 goals and took out the leading goal scorer award.

Peggy Rock from Nightcliff Tigers secured back-to-back best and fairest medals in the Under 14 Girls Division and tied the leading goal kicker medal with Harmony Lacey from Palmerston Magpies, with 20 goals for the season.

AFLNT congratulates all winners on their outstanding performance in the 2022/23 TIO NTFL season.
