A very lucky NT footballer strikes gold in the AFL's Golden Rego Giveaway

The AFL is pleased to announce two lucky community footballers have been selected as the major prize winners for the 2022 Golden Rego Giveaway competition.

The Northern Territory’s Balin Powardy from the Pint Football Club has claimed the major prize of a Toyota Kluger AWD Grande Hybrid, while 10-year-old Sonny from the Quinns Districts Junior Football Club in Western Australia has won a money can’t buy experience with a 2022 Toyota AFL Grand Final package.

Moving to Darwin a few years ago, Balin Powardy first got her taste of community football after joining her local club to play with her friends. Quickly falling in love with the sport, Balin played a handful of games in her first season before taking on a role as Team Manager of the Pint Football Club, where she supported the team on its way to back-to-back Premierships in the Women’s Reserves competition.

A passionate West Coast Eagles fan, our junior major prize winner, Sonny, first started playing football at a young age with his local NAB AFL Auskick centre, before moving on to play junior football with the Quinns Districts Junior Football Club in the Metro North-WA competition.

As part of the AFL’s $50 million investment to support community football, the AFL launched the Golden Rego Giveaway to encourage all Australians to get involved in the game, offering more than 1,100 prizes worth over $370,000 for anyone who registered to be part of a community football club or NAB AFL Auskick in season 2022.

Two community football participants, one community football club and one NAB AFL Auskick centre from each state and territory have also won a share in cash prizes, which will be officially announced via play.afl/afl-golden-rego later this week.

In addition, hundreds of minor prizes, generously donated by 30 AFL corporate partners, have been given away as part of the initiative, including gift cards, holiday vouchers, live experiences, gift packs and equipment.

AFL Executive General Manager Game Development Rob Auld said it was terrific to see so many Australians register for their chance to be part of the Golden Rego Giveaway in 2022.

“Community football clubs are pivotal to the health and wellbeing of our communities and offer a place of connection and belonging, so to be able to encourage more people to sign up with their local club through the Golden Rego Giveaway is great for everyone,” Mr. Auld said.

“The AFL is committed to helping local clubs, leagues and NAB AFL Auskick centres get back on track after an interrupted few seasons and the Golden Rego Giveaway is just one way the AFL is supporting the return of community football across the country.

“It was pleasing to see hundreds of thousands of people register to either play, administer, coach, volunteer or umpire community football this season, which will provide a much-needed boost for local leagues as they embark on another exciting season of football.”
