MRP

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) wishes to advise the Match Review Panel (MRP) has reviewed all matches played in Round 14 of the 2021/22 TIO NTFL season, and the following charges have been laid:

Men’s Premier League

Zachary Robinson of St Mary’s Football Club has been charged with striking #10 of Nightcliff Football Club in the third quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Nightcliff and St Mary’s at Darwin Mazda Nightcliff Oval on Saturday 15 January 2022.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Robinson can accept a one-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

Shaun Edwards of St Mary’s Football Club has been charged with head-butting #22 of Nightcliff Football Club in the third quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Nightcliff and St Mary’s at Darwin Mazda Nightcliff Oval on Saturday 15 January 2022.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Edwards can accept a one-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

Men’s Division 1

Jason Baird of Palmerston Magpies Football Club has been charged with striking #6 of Tracy Village Football Club in the fourth quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Division 1 match between Tracy Village and Palmerston Magpies at Tracy Village Oval on Sunday 16 January 2022.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, medium impact and high contact, resulting in a three-match penalty.

In summary, Baird can accept a two-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

Jayden Berto of Palmerston Magpies Football Club has been charged with using abusive, insulting or obscene language towards or in relation to an umpire in the fourth quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Division 1 match between Tracy Village and Palmerston Magpies at Tracy Village Oval on Sunday 16 January 2022.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the language Berto is alleged to have used is in-line with the Auditory Offences matrix (Appendix 9) that is part of the AFLNT Rules and Regulations (2021-22 edition) and should be classified as loud, meaning the comment could be heard more than 50 metres away, while the conduct was rated as abusive/obscene. This has resulted in a four-match penalty.

In summary, Berto can accept a three-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

The club/players via the club's tribunal advocate have until 9:00pm tonight (Tuesday) to accept the early plea or lodge an appeal to have the matter heard by an independent Tribunal.

AFLNT will only issue a further update if the club/player chooses to challenge at Tribunal.

*** UPDATE: All Round 14 early guilty pleas have been accepted.
