2021/22 TIO NTFL Foundation Cup Statement

Statement

UPDATED

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) is aware of some behavioural issues that are alleged to have taken place at Gardens Oval after the TIO Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) Men’s Premier League Foundation Cup match between Waratah and Wanderers Football Clubs.

AFLNT received formal complaints from Wanderers relating to the incidents and the NTFL has been actively working with stakeholders involved to understand exactly what occurred.

Upon receiving any complaint, AFLNT follows a clear process to deal with alleged incidents, in line with the relevant policy.  If the complaint being made relates to racial vilification or discrimination, the AFL National Vilification and Discrimination Policy is followed.

From the outset, any process is handled in complete confidence, which includes any outcomes pertaining to the complaints process.

There is no set penalty or guideline as to what the parties in conciliation will agree to. A failed conciliation process may then lead to an investigation or be referred on to an independent Tribunal, which has the power to impose match suspensions, fines and other penalties.

AFLNT remains committed to building a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all people involved in Australian Football. We do not stand by and let unacceptable behaviour occur from anyone involved in our game which is why we enforce a range of policies including the Code of Conduct, Conditions of Entry and National Vilification and Discriminatory Policy. These are designed to demonstrate the expectations of the Clubs, participants and spectators of AFLNT leagues.
