Eddie Betts becomes a Magpie

It has been confirmed Eddie Betts is TIO Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) Palmerston Magpies Football Club’s newest recruit for the 2021/22 Season. 

Betts finished his stellar AFL career at the end of the 2021 season having played a total of 350 games and kicked 640 goals.

Originally, he was drafted to Carlton with pick number three in the 2004 AFL Pre-Season Draft, moved to Adelaide as a free agent at the end of 2013 and back to Carlton at the conclusion of the 2019 season. 

AFLNT Community Football Manager, Leigh Elder said he is thrilled to see Betts join TIO NTFL competition this season. 

“Eddie has been an influential AFL player for over 17 years, is highly respected and brings with him vast knowledge and experiences, which the TIO NTFL and broader Territory community will benefit significantly from,” he said.

“It is will be fantastic for the Territory football community and spectators alike to see Eddie playing in the TIO NTFL and we look forward to discussing more opportunities to work with him in the remote, game development and talent space while he’s here.”

Palmerston Magpies Head Coach, Josh Heath said the club is very excited and honoured to have Betts and his family choose to be involved with the Magpies this season. 

“We are very fortunate to have someone of his calibre on board, mentoring and developing our juniors and as Assistant Coach of our senior group,” he said. 

“We fully support his initiatives in engaging and working with Indigenous communities and people throughout the Northern Territory.”
