Good behaviour wins Nightcliff Club of the Year

Big club winner

Nightcliff has taken out the 2019/20 Statewide Super Club of the Year, taking home the $5,000 cash prize for being the leading club in the Big Club division, announced at the Nichols Medal night.

Nightcliff’s success is thanks to not only strong on field performance but good behaviour with the club not registering any Premier League, Division 1 or Division 2 player suspensions in the home and away season to finish on 134.6 points, 39.8 points ahead of St Mary’s.

The final two placings didn’t change after Round 15, where Nightcliff had a handy lead ahead of St Mary’s, who take home $2,500, coming in second. Waratah finished the season in third place after poor player behaviour impacted their full points potential to take home the $1,000 prize money.

In the Small Club division, PINT Football Club also held its lead after Round 15 to win the $1,500 prize money on 125 points.

Banks Football Club came in second place for the second year running, taking home the $1,000 prize money. Last season’s Small Club winners, Tiwi Bombers, took home third place 20 points clear of the Big River Hawks in forth for the $500 cash prize.

AFLNT Manager of Community Football Emily Wastle-Hopkins said it was great to see clubs embracing the initiative in its second year.

“This year we have seen clubs receive the fruits of embracing all aspects of the game, not only one field performance with Nightcliff being a shining example that good behaviour pays off.

“Clubs have taking it upon themselves to write and review their own codes of conduct, action plans and strengthen processes, which only strengthens the competition.

“Statewide Super have again been a brilliant sponsor and we thank them for their commitment. We look forward to seeing this component of the NTFL continue,” she said.

For reference, any club with eight or more teams was put into the Big Club division, and any clubs with seven or fewer teams were put into the Small Club division for the Statewide Super Club of the Year Award.

Each division had its own prize money and the total prize pool for season 2019/20 was $ 11,500 thanks to Statewide Super.
