AFLNT adds life members and announces new Chairman

Will Farrer has received life membership.

A host of past and present NT football identities have received Life Membership following the completion of AFLNT’s Annual General Meeting tonight.

Current and past players Delsey Ah Wang (Darwin Buffaloes), Jaylene Boundry (Darwin Buffaloes), Emma Collinson (Darwin Buffaloes), William Farrer (Southern Districts), Lateesha Jeffrey (Southern Districts), Natasha Medbury (Palmerston Magpies), Jonathan Peris (Nightcliff),  Lisa Roberts (Waratah), Kerry-Anne White (Palmerston Magpies and Pioneer) and Austin Wonaeamirri (Tiwi Bombers)were endorsed for player life membership.

Former Umpires Manager and current umpire Mark Noonan was endorsed for Umpire Life Membership, while Herman Roodin and Damian Hale were endorsed for Honorary Life Membership based on their contribution to the game.

AFLNT Chief Executive Officer Stu Totham acknowledged the new life members.

 “Congratulations to everyone who received life membership, your efforts and commitment deserve to be recognised and rewarded,” he said. 

Bowden appointed Chairman

During the meeting, Ross Coburn confirmed that he was not continuing as Chairman of the AFLNT Board of Directors but remaining on the Board as a Director.

Sean Bowden was appointed as Chairman with the appointment endorsed by the Board of Directors, who all spoke warmly about Coburn's contribution during his time as Chairman.

The Board of Directors also endorsed the reappointment of Lincoln Jenkin and Thomas Wilcox for a period of three years, and the appointment of David Ross as Director for a period of three years.

Coburn said he would look back fondly on his eight years as Chairman.

“It’s been an amazing journey, I’ve really enjoyed the ride,” he said.  

“During my time as Chairman, we have seen an enormous amount of positive change and development of the game, highlighted by a sharp rise in participation growth.

“I have the utmost confidence in Sean Bowden being able to step into the role and continue the growth and integrity of our great game in the Northern Territory.” 

Bowden said Coburn had done an outstanding job during his time in the role.

“Ross’s contribution to our game in the Northern Territory has been enormous,” he said.   

“He is respected at all levels and has established a firm foundation for the future growth and success of football in the Northern Territory.”

AFLNT Chief Executive Officer Stu Totham acknowledged Mr Coburn’s eight years at the helm and thanked him for his guidance and support as CEO.

“AFLNT has benefited from Ross’ expertise and guidance for 18 years and he’s made a strong contribution as the game has evolved during that period.

“I’m looking forward to working with Sean as we continue to focus on the development of community football, talent pathways and growing the game throughout the Territory.”
