Territory umpires off to National Championships

Going for the boundary throw in

Eleven local umpires have been selected to represent the Northern Territory (NT) in different national championships across Australia.

In the coming months, the NAB AFL U16 Boys, NAB AFL U18 Girls, School Sport Australia U15 Boys and Girls and School Sport Australia U12 Boys are the four carnivals that will be attended by our talented Territory umpires.

Coming from the 2018 Darwin-based NEAFL umpiring panel are; Ashlon Gardner (field), Lachlan Pietzsch (boundary) and John Trott (goals) who have been selected to participate in the NAB AFL U16 Boys Championships in Brisbane from Monday 9 July – Saturday 14 July.

During the same week, Brodie Morcom (field), Ryan Gosper (boundary) and Jack Whitehead (goals) will head to the Gold Coast for the NAB AFL Under 18 Girls Championships.

Lachlan Kendrick (field), Patrick Rawsthorne (field), Dairen Blair (boundary) and William Wood (goals) will be in Adelaide for the School Sport Australia U15 Boys and Girls Championships which run from Saturday 21 July to Saturday 28 July.

The sole umpire to fly the Territory flag in Canberra at the School Sport Australia U12 Boys this year will be field umpire Andre Price-Quintner.

The selected umpires have plenty of experience between them, from umpiring the AFL reserves teams in the NEAFL to the Men’s Premier League and Men’s Division 1 in the local Northern Territory Football League (NTFL).

AFL Northern Territory Umpiring Manager, Mark Noonan, said he’s very excited for the opportunity these carnivals provide for Territory umpires

“It brings me great pleasure to select the umpires who have earned their stripes for their respective national championships.

“It shows that the NT umpiring pathway is alive and well in providing the support that’s required for the next generation of umpires to take their careers to the next level,” said Noonan.
