2021/22 TIO NTFL Nichols Medal presented by Cazalys and Youth Presentation Events Announcement

NEWS

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) advises the format of the 2021/22 TIO Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) Nichols Medal presented by Cazalys and Youth Presentation Events have been confirmed.

This year, due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19 to the TIO NTFL competition and to protect the health and safety of the footy community, both major league events will be available for free via an online format only.

Head of AFLNT Sam Gibson said this decision was not easy but in order to minimise the health risk to TIO NTFL players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and others within the footy community, it is an important one.

“These prestigious youth and senior grade events are highlights of the NTFL season and it’s unfortunate we are not in a position to celebrate various achievements across the league in traditional style, however the safety of the footy community remains our highest priority,” Gibson said.

"Whilst COVID has impacted the NTFL season the health and safety of the community has been the forefront of the decisions made by AFLNT to continue the competition.  Our move to online events is an important step in continuing to safeguard those who had fantastic seasons and have worked hard to make it to the Grand Finals.

“We recognise this season has been challenging for so many within the footy community and we want to ensure a smooth run in the lead up to both Grand Final weekends for clubs, players and their volunteers to enjoy.

“Even though we’re doing things differently, we can’t wait to celebrate those who have made a huge impact on the game we love this season.”

The Youth Presentation will be available to watch for free via AFLNTv YouTube channel on the Tuesday 8 March and the Nichols Medal presented by Cazalys event will be streamed on the evening of Sunday 13 March.

AFLNT will be working with local industry and event partners to deliver these online events. Further details and links to watch will be announced closer to the date of the events.
