With a wealth of experience and a look to the future, these selections are sound reward for the efforts these umpires have put in across the NTFL season.
In the Men’s Premier League game, it a sense of déjà vu with the same panel in the field as the 2019/20 NTFL Grand Final.
After consistently performing across the season, Mark Noonan umpires his ninth grand final with Jamieson Galbraith umpiring his fourth. Included in the panel is also ABC Umpire of the Year Joel Morrison who will officiate his second Men’s Premier League Grand Final.
It is a mix of experience and talent throughout the Boundary and Goal umpires with all umpires having either been a part of a NEAFL or VFL Development program in the past two years. Tony Miles will be umpiring his fourth Grand Final in the goals whilst Dean O’Donoghue will umpire his first MPL Grand Final as a Goal Umpire. Dean is no stranger to Men’s Premier League Grand Final day after umpiring a number of Grand Finals as a boundary umpire before the transition into the goals.
The Women’s Premier League game contains a lot of emerging talent mixed in with experience. Four of the appointed umpires will be umpiring their first Women’s Premier League Grand Final, with last year’s umpires Sam Cunningham and Isabelle Rawsthorne retaining their spots after a very consistent season.
Senior Umpires Coach and nine-time NTFL Grand Final Umpire Simon Walker said this weekend will display some of the Territory’s best umpiring.
“It is fantastic to see so much of our emerging talent on display in these Premier League Grand Finals,” Walker said.
“There are also some terrific umpires that have been appointed to the remaining grades, with a number of experienced umpires supporting the next generation of umpires coming through.”
Young and emerging talent such as NTFL star Emma Stark and AFLNT Junior Umpire of the Year Josh Cooper will both be showing off their skills in the Under 18 Grand Finals.
After his first NTFL Season, Umpiring and Coaching Manager Darren Pfeiffer says he has been amazed at the young talent coming through the umpiring system and has full faith this will continue across the weekend.
“The umpires selected in Grand Final matches this weekend have consistently performed at a high standard across the whole season,” Pfeiffer said.
“NTFL games this season have been well serviced, and I have full faith and trust that it will continue across all of the Grand Finals.”
With over five thousand games of umpiring experience on display, this weekend will be a fantastic spectacle for everyone involved.
