Welcome to the 2020/21 TIO NTFL Finals Series!

2020/21 Finals Series

A revamped historic TIO NTFL Final Series is set to light up TIO Stadium with the final fixtures announced today.

Almost 12 months to the day when COVID-19 shut down the nation, the 2020/21 TIO NTFL Finals fixture now includes special fixture changes from previous years, including for the first time the Men’s and Women’s Grand Finals are on the same day.

In addition, there is now equal coverage for Junior and Senior Grand Final games across all four finals weeks, plus scheduling of grade games together so teams can watch their peers and opponents play each other.

AFLNT’s Community Football Manager Leigh Elder says this finals fixture has been carefully crafted, ensuring limited venue movements for each grade and prime time senior footy for spectator convenience.

Elder said the historic decision to move away from separate Men’s and Women’s Grand Final weekends was a change involving the entire footy community. The TIO Women’s Premier League Grand Final will now be scheduled at 4pm as the main curtain-raiser to the TIO Men’s Premier League Grand Final.

“We worked with the NTFL clubs at the start of the year with the proposal to move the Women’s Grand Final to the same day and it was overwhelmingly supported,” Elder said.

“The new Grand Final Weekend fixture now sees separate Juniors and Seniors Grand Final weekends which encourage seniors to get down and support junior grades in their grand finals and vice versa.”

Traditionally, the Men’s Premier League Grand Final begun at 7.30pm, with the start time this season now brought back to 6.45pm to encourage more families to come and enjoy the duration of the game.

“It was important for us to create a fixture that maximises the amount of people who come and watch their friends and family play footy,” he explained.

“We have intentionally tried to keep each grade together where we can. Having each grade play in the finals series consecutively at any one venue will make for a great day out at the footy, especially on Grand Final Day.”

AFLNT anticipates large crowds across the finals series at TIO Stadium, kicking off with Week 1 of the 2020/21 TIO NTFL Men and Women Premier League Finals this weekend.

AFLNT has announced that it will hold all ticket prices to all finals weeks plus the Grand Final, with additional membership offerings with a special Finals Pass.  This will allow access to the Kantilla Members Bar, as well as other benefits.

The Premier League action begins this Saturday with the Women’s Elimination Final between Southern Districts and Nightcliff. The sides clashed twice this season, drawing a game in Round 8, and the Tigers’ Eliza Morrison kicking the winning goal when they met in Round 17. The winner will secure their spot in the Semi’s against the losing Qualifying Final team.

Darwin Buffettes and St Mary’s meet in the Women’s Premier League Qualifying Final with the winner playing Minor Premiers PINT in the Semi Finals next week. They split their home-and-away season games against each other with both sides winning a game apiece.

Following both Women’s games, Waratah and Darwin Buffaloes will clash to keep their finals dreams alive in the Men’s Premier League Elimination Final. The Buffs have the winning record against Waratah this season, taking two wins from their three games, however the Tahs finished one spot above them on the ladder with a higher percentage.

A famous rivalry is renewed in the Men’s Premier League Qualifying Final with St Mary’s and Wanderers going head-to-head for the second week in a row. Round 18 saw the Saints defeat the Eagles by 79 points but with key players returning for both sides, and the chance to challenge Nightcliff next week for a Grand Final berth, this game rightly deserves its title as the match of the round.
