2020/21 TIO NTFL MRP - Round 10

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) wishes to advise the Match Review Panel (MRP) has reviewed all matches played in Round 10 of the 2020/21 TIO NTFL season, and the following charges have been laid:

Men’s Premier League

Tiwi Bombers Football Club assistant coaches James Scrymgour, Kevin Baxter and Jeffrey Simon have been charged with using abusive, insulting, threatening or obscene language towards an umpire after the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between the Tiwi Bombers and the Palmerston Magpies Football Club at Wurrumiyanga Oval on Saturday 5 December 2020.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the language Scrymgour, Baxter and Simon are alleged to have used is in-line with the Auditory Offences matrix (Appendix 9) that is part of the AFLNT Rules and Regulations (2020-21 edition) and should be classified as loud, meaning the comments could be heard more than 50 metres away, while the conduct was rated as a threat.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incidents should be classified as a direct tribunal offence.

In summary, the matters have been referred directly to the Tribunal.

Matt Campbell of Darwin Buffaloes Football Club has been charged with striking player number 31 from St Mary’s Football Club in the first quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between St Mary’s and Darwin Buffaloes at TIO Stadium on Saturday 5 December 2020.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Campbell can accept a one-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

Men’s Division 1

Dylan Holmes of Palmerston Magpies Football Club has been charged with striking player number 55 of PINT Football Club in the fourth quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Division 1 match between PINT and Palmerston Magpies at DXC Arena on Sunday 6 December 2020.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Holmes can accept a one-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

Men’s Division 2

Joel Richardson of University Rats Football Club has been charged with attempting to strike in the third quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Division 2 match between PINT Football Club and University Rats at DXC Arena on Sunday 6 December 2020.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact.

In summary, the matter has been referred directly to tribunal.

Richardson has also been charged with striking in the third quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Division 2 match between PINT Football Club and University Magpies at DXC Arena on Sunday 6 December 2020.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, medium impact and high contact.

In summary, the matter has been referred directly to tribunal.

Ben Gunn of University Rats Football Club has been charged with rough conduct in the fourth quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Division 2 match between PINT Football Club and University Rats at DXC Arena on Sunday 6 December 2020.

Based on the evidence available, it was the view of the MRP that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Gunn can accept a one-match penalty with an early guilty plea.

The clubs/players via the club's tribunal advocate has until 9:00pm tonight (Tuesday) to accept the early plea or lodge an appeal to have the matter heard by an independent Tribunal.

*UPDATED Wednesday 9 December morning*

The Tribunal will sit tonight with James Scrymgour, Kevin Baxter, Jeffery Simon, and Joel Richardson's cases going directly to tribunal.

Matt Campbell, Dylan Holmes, and Ben Gunn all accepted the early guilty plea option.
