TIO NTFL Match Review Panel: Round 14

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed all matches played in Round 14 of the 2019/20 TIO NTFL season, and the following charges have been laid in the senior divisions:

Men’s Premier League 

Jake Best, of the Tiwi Bombers Football Club, has been charged with striking player number 4 from Southern Districts Football Club in the third quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Southern Districts and the Tiwi Bombers at Norbuilt Oval on Saturday 18 January 2020.

Based on the umpire's report and evidence available, it was the view of the Panel that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Best can accept a one-match penalty for an early guilty plea. 

Clifford Timms, of the Palmerston Magpies Football Club, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against player number 5 from the Waratah Football Club in the second quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Waratah and the Palmerston Magpies at TIO Stadium on Saturday 18 January 2020.

Based on the umpire's report and the video evidence available, it was the view of the Panel that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and contact to the body, resulting in a one-match penalty.

In summary, Timms can accept a reprimand for an early guilty plea. 

Matthew Chester, of the Palmerston Magpies Football Club, has been charged with striking player number 15 from the Waratah Football Club in the second quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Waratah and the Palmerston Magpies at TIO Stadium on Saturday 18 January 2020.

Based on the video evidence available, it was the view of the Panel that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Chester can accept a one-match penalty for an early guilty plea.

Jalen Clarke, of the Darwin Buffaloes Football Club, has been charged with striking player number 13 from Wanderers Football Club in the first quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between the Darwin Buffaloes and Wanderers at TIO Stadium on Saturday 18 January 2020.

Based on the umpire’s report and evidence available, it was the view of the Panel that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Clarke can accept a one-match penalty for an early guilty plea.

Men’s Division 1

Shane Thorne, of Wanderers Football Club, has been charged with time-wasting in the fourth quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Division 1 match between the Banks Football Club and Wanderers at Gardens Oval on Saturday 18 January 2020.

Based on the umpire’s report, it was the view of the Panel that the incident should be classified as a low-level offence, resulting in a one-match penalty.

In summary, Thorne can accept a reprimand for an early guilty plea.

The clubs/players via the club's tribunal advocate has until 9:00pm tonight (Tuesday) to accept the early plea or lodge an appeal to have the matter heard by an independent Tribunal.

*UPDATED Wednesday 22 January* 

The Tribunal will not sit for the senior divisions after all players pleaded guilty and accepted their early penalties.
