TIO NTFL Match Review Panel: Round 10

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed all matches played in Round 10 of the 2019/20 TIO NTFL season, and the following charges have been laid in the senior divisions:

Men’s Premier League

Darren Shillabeer, of Darwin Buffaloes Football Club, has been charged with using abusive/obscene language towards an umpire in the first quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between the Tiwi Bombers Football Club and Darwin Buffaloes at Wurrumiyanga Oval on Saturday 7 December 2019.

Based on the umpire's report, it was the view of the panel that the specific content of the language Shillabeer is alleged to have used is in-line with the Auditory Offences matrix (Appendix 9) that is part of the AFLNT Rules and Regulations (2019-2020 edition) and should be classified as medium, meaning the comment could be heard 10 to 50 metres away, while the conduct was rated as abusive/obscene.  This has resulted in a three-match penalty.

In summary, Shillabeer can accept a two-match penalty for an early guilty plea.

Men’s Division 1

Rhys Griffiths, of Wanderers Football Club, has been charged with using abusive/obscene language towards an umpire in the third quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Nightcliff Football Club and Wanderers at TIO Oval 2 on Saturday 7 December 2019.

Based on the umpire's report, it was the view of the panel that the specific content of the language Griffiths is alleged to have used is in-line with the Auditory Offences matrix (Appendix 9) that is part of the AFLNT Rules and Regulations (2019-2020 edition) and should be classified as loud, meaning the comment could be heard from 50 plus metres away, while the conduct was rated as abusive/obscene.  This has resulted in a four-match penalty.

In summary, Griffiths can accept a three-match penalty for an early guilty plea.
