Jeffrey, Jungfer and Rosas combine for the final two Allies games

Joel Jeffrey, Ben Jungfer and Mally Rosas

Joel Jeffrey, Ben Jungfer and Malcolm Rosas have been named in the Allies squad to take on Vic Metro and South Australia in Rounds 4 and 5 of the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships.

Rosas, who has played every game of the Championships so far, is likely to be used as a small defensive forward after kicking a goal against Western Australia and being named in the best players for the Allies.

It will be Jeffrey’s second game for the Allies, where he is being utilised across halfback because of his ability to read the ball and his intercept marking, which has impressed so far this year.

Jungfer, who was the emergency last week, is likely to play the last two games of the Championships which begin tomorrow against Vic Metro as a prelude to the AFL blockbuster game between Geelong Cats and Adelaide.

Round 5 of the Allies’ campaign will be next Wednesday 3 July against South Australia, and that game will be broadcast nationally on Fox Footy.

The fourth representative for the NT, Beau O’Connell, was one of the extended squad members who were unlucky to miss out, but the clubs have told AFLNT Manager of Talent and Pathways Wally Gallio that they would continue to monitor him through the NEAFL competition.

“We are pleased to complete the pathway for our best young talent through both the national championships and NEAFL, and it’s great to see the top performers at our Academy level get the opportunity to compete in front of AFL recruiters and staff.

“The aim for the Allies boys over the next two games is to continue their performance from Round 3 and play a team game that still showcases their induvial talents. The coaching staff has discussed leaving players in their natural positions to give them the best opportunity to perform consistently,” Gallio said.
