AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) advises the independent Tribunal sat tonight, Wednesday 28 November, to hear four charges from Round 8 of the senior division TIO NTFL games.
Men's Premier League
Matt Campbell, of Darwin Buffaloes Football Club, appeared before the Tribunal to answer two charges; first of disputing a decision of an umpire, and second of rough conduct against player number 22 of the Wanderers Football Club, in the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Darwin Buffaloes and Wanderers at TIO Stadium on Saturday 24 November 2018.
Campbell pleaded guilty to both charges.
In relation to the charge of rough conduct, the Tribunal issued him a reprimand.
In relation to the charge of disputing a decision of an umpire, the Tribunal issued him a one-match suspension which is to be wholly suspended until Round 8 of the 2019/20 TIO NTFL season.
Citing Campbell’s willingness to plead guilty, his 20-year involvement with football and his contribution back to the Territory football community, the Tribunal decided a suspended sentence of a one-match penalty was an appropriate sanction.
A condition of the suspended sentence included an apology to the umpire involved and an acknowledgement that his behaviour was unacceptable.
Should Campbell be found guilty of another charge in the next 12 months (to the completion of Round 8 of the 2019/20 TIO NTFL season) then any proceeding penalty will have the one-match added to it.
Men's Division 2
Charlie Dring, of Banks Bulldogs Football Club, and Anthony Newlove, of Nightcliff Football Club, had their charges of striking in the third quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Division 2 match between Nightcliff and Banks at TIO Oval 2 on Saturday 24 November 2018 heard by the Tribunal.
Both players pleaded guilty to their charge of striking
In summary, Dring and Newlove were issued three-match penalties.
