AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) convened the Community Football Summit on Monday involving key stakeholders associated with the game in Central Australia, which came about following the decision made by the Alice Springs Town Council (ASTC) in February to withdraw support for the Central Australia Football League (CAFL) Community Competition.

Head of AFLNT, Sam Gibson, said: "AFLNT thanks the Arrernte traditional owners for hosting the meeting and is grateful for the attendance of these key stakeholders, including the ASTC, Northern Territory Government representatives and teams involved in the local competition. We acknowledge the important roles these stakeholders play in our game throughout Central Australia.

"Productive discussions took place throughout the meeting and there is a clear willingness from stakeholders to continue to explore what’s best for the game and the people in the region, including how fixtures work in Alice Springs and remote communities.

"AFLNT remains committed to continuing to work with stakeholders, including the ASTC, to find a way forward for community football in Central Australia in 2023 and into the future."
