AFLNT COVID-19 Update

Following the recent COVID-19 update from the Northern Territory Government and announcement of lockdown restrictions in the Greater Darwin and Katherine regions, below is an update on what it means for AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) competitions and programs:

Big Rivers Football League (BRFL)
BRFL community football matches and training will not take place in the Katherine region until further notice, as per Northern Territory Government restrictions. 

Umpire training will not take place in the Big Rivers region as per Northern Territory Government restrictions. 

Northern Territory Football League (NTFL)  
Pre-season training will not take place in the Greater Darwin region until further notice, as per Northern Government restrictions. 

Umpire training will not take place in the Greater Darwin region as per Northern Territory Government restrictions. 

Barkly Australian Football League (BAFL)
BAFL community football matches and training will operate as per usual. 

Central Australian Football League (CAFL)
CAFL community football matches and training will operate as per usual. 

AFLNT will consult stakeholders in regard to what this means for community football matches fixtured during this period.

Katherine Toyota AFL Live Site Event
The health and safety of the wider community is Toyota’s top priority. In light of the current COVID-19 situation, the difficult decision has been made to postpone the Toyota AFL Live Site Event in Katherine until 2022. 

Cazalys NT Thunder Academy
Darwin based Cazalys NT Thunder Academy training will not take place until further notice. 

Alice Springs based Cazalys NT Thunder Academy training will operate as per usual. 

The scheduled Cazalys NT Thunder NAB League Challenge match for this weekend in Darwin has been postponed. 

Michael Long Learning & Leadership Centre (MLLLC) Programs
No programs or camps are taking place in Darwin’s MLLLC this week.

Remote Projects
The Katherine Remote Community Programs throughout the Big Rivers region have been cancelled.

All other Remote Projects and Programs will operate as per usual. AFLNT are closely monitoring the situations of the nine remote AFLNT serviced locations and will continue to follow advice from the Northern Territory Government, health authorities and Land Councils.  

AFLNT Darwin and Katherine Offices
The AFLNT Darwin and Katherine offices are closed until further notice. 

The health and safety of the community remains the highest priority. AFLNT will continue to work closely with the Northern Territory Government and will be guided by advice from the government, health authorities and Land Councils.

It is important to stay home and get tested if you are feeling unwell. It is also important to practice good hygiene at all times – keep up the hand washing and use of soap, as well as sanitiser.

We encourage you to download and use the Government’s Territory Check In and COVIDSafe app and make sure they are up and running before you leave home. 

AFLNT will update stakeholders with any new information regarding restrictions and protocols for community football, when available.
