Return to training protocols & return to play update

Community footy in Barkly

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) has today written to clubs across all four of its community competitions; the Barkly Australian Football League (BAFL), Big Rivers Football League (BRFL), TIO Central Australian Football League (CAFL) and TIO Northern Territory Football League (NTFL), to outline its return to training protocols and to provide an update on return to play for the BAFL, BRFL and CAFL.

Clubs have been provided with a detailed AFL Return to Training protocols document which contains a checklist that needs to be completed before a club can commence training.

The transition to Stage 2 under the NT Government's 'Roadmap to our New Normal' allows for footy teams to begin training from midday this Friday provided they have completed the NT Government COVID-19 Safety Plan checklist and adhere to all other protocols as outlined in the AFLNT document.

In regards to a return to play, AFLNT continues to work through this process with the AFL, which includes the financial aspects of each community competition, rules around player transfers, as well as developing appropriate fixtures.

AFLNT remains hopeful that the NT Government will lift biosecurity measures by 18 June, thus securing the safety of our community.  Pending the lifting of these measures, AFLNT is planning to commence CAFL, BRFL & BAFL seasons in early July.

NTFL clubs are currently providing feedback on team nominations and working through planning for the 2020/21 season, which traditionally begins in October each year.

AFLNT thanks the football community for their patience as it continues to work through these unique challenges, and strongly recommends that clubs and players utilise the Government’s COVIDSafe app to assist with tracking the virus.
