Preparation underway for the inaugural Under 16 NT Thunder Women’s Academy camp

The first-ever NT Thunder Women’s Academy Development Camp will be held at the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre in Darwin from Sunday 6 – Thursday 10 October.  
 
The camp will offer talented Under 16 female players from all over the Northern Territory the opportunity to train in a high-performance environment with high-quality coaches and access to first-class facilities. 
 
Players will be exposed to strength and conditioning programs, technical and tactical skill development sessions and education sessions on recovery, nutrition, mindset and wellbeing. 
 
As well as players from Darwin and Alice Springs, players from Elcho Island, Goulburn Island, Gove, Katherine, Milingimbi, Tennant Creek, Tiwi Islands and Wugularr have been identified to attend by their clubs, school, AFLNT remote development officers and AFLNT talent and pathways staff. 
 
AFL Northern Territory Women’s Academy Manager, Heidi Thompson said she was looking forward to seeing the best of young Territory talent in the one place.  
 
“This camp will give underage talent exposure to a high-performance program in preparation for our inaugural Under 16 Academy to be announced at the end of the year.
 
“It’s an exciting time the youth space in female football in the Northern Territory and the opportunity to have everyone here and to give them this experience will be rewarding,” she said.
