CAFL Finals Week 3 – let the premiers be decided!

Country CAFL grand final

After an exhilarating second week of Central Australian Football League (CAFL) finals action, AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) is pleased to announce the schedule for the preliminary finals of the 'town' competition and the grand finals for the 'country' divisions this weekend.

Please note, the game times that were originally published in this article have been updated on Thursday 29 August to reflect accurate changes.

Five CAFL ‘town’ competition preliminary final games will be played on TIO Traeger Park on Saturday starting with South versus Pioneer in the Under 15 Boys at 11:00am and finishing with the Women's game at 6:00pm. All teams are fighting for their place in the following weekend’s grand finals while the losing teams will bow out.

Four of the five boys/men’s teams have representations across their divisions, while Wests will be flying the flag in the Women’s Preliminary Final.

Three grand finals will be played at TIO Traeger Park on Sunday starting at 11.00am with Plenty Highway taking on Yuendumu in the Under 18s. Mt Allan Eagles will then meet Willowra in the Community Cup Grand Final while MacDonnell Districts and Ltyentye Apurte will play in the Country League Grand Final at 3:30pm.

AFLNT Community Football Manager for Central Australia, Darryl Griffiths said the weekend would prove to be exciting with the penultimate CAFL round on Saturday followed by grand final action on Sunday.

"We expect another thrilling weekend of footy at TIO Traeger Park especially on Sunday when the ‘country’ grand finals are played. It will be a historic moment for the Mt Allan Eagles and Willowra running out in their first CAFL Grand Final and the crowd atmosphere should be electric.

"In the Senior Men's division on Saturday after Rovers advanced straight through to the Grand Final, we eagerly await who out of South or Pioneer will meet them, and in the Women's competition, Rovers and Wests will be playing it out to see who can meet Pioneer in the Grand Final next Saturday,” he said.

Saturday night’s game between South and Pioneer will be live-streamed on AFLNT YouTube and shown live on ICTV as will the Community Cup and Country League grand finals on Sunday.

Ticket prices for Sunday will be $10 for adults, $5 for children, age 5 and under free.
