About the role

The primary responsibility of this role is the development of the best talent (female) in the Northern Territory in collaboration with the AFL National Talent Pathways, AFLNT Affiliated Competitions NEAFL and VFLW senior coaches and AFLNT Regional Managers for all AFLW clubs.

Secondly is working with the Talent and Pathways Manager to play a key role in the personal development of AFLNT Affiliated Competitions senior coaches and other state programs including diversity programs coaches.

Please note employment in this position is subject to a satisfactory criminal history record check. The successful candidate is required to possess a valid ‘working with children’ check. The AFL has extensive procedures and checks in place to protect children and young people in our organisation.

A day in the life of

NT Thunder Academy – Development of Academy Teams

  • Assist in identifying players to compete and develop for the NTFCW team playing in the VFLW
  • Assist the Manager of Talent and Pathways to develop and implement individual development plans with identified players
  • Selection of AFL NT Thunder Academy squad’s U16 – 18 females through discussion with team selectors, Academy Training Attendance in Southern and Northern Regions, and attendance of Northern Territory Regional Trials, Academy Series and Interstate Matches
  • Assistant in the Development of NT Thunder Academy Underage Team program relating to training camp content, training sessions, match day plans, game plans etc.
  • Aid, guidance, education and feedback to all players involved in AFL NT Talent Pathways female programs U16 – 18
  • Conduct U16 Academy program in line with AFLNGA programs and national curriculum delivery
  • Development and implementation of quality video editing and coding for individual and team development and feedback
  • Assist in the completion of recruiting reports on necessary Northern Territory players and AFL clubs

 
NT Thunder Coaching Development

  • Continue in the development of quality video editing for coaching development
  • Develop and implement IDP Process for coaching in conjunction with Well Being Coach
  • Manage and Develop NT Thunder academy coaching staff and Regional Academy Programs
  • Play an important role of monitoring players selected in the Central ALLIES Program and players selected in the AFLW Academy Programs
  • Develop and implement skill development curriculums for  NT Thunder Academy Coaches guidelines that can also be delivered to the education of Community Coaches.

 
Development of Talented Player Program in the Northern Territory Talent at U14, U12 Level

  • Identify Northern Territory talent within specified age groups for individual development programs
  • Assist in the development of Regional Academy Programs throughout the Northern Territory
  • Assist the Manager of Talent and Pathways to develop and implement individual development plans with identified players
  • Identify and Engage, utilise and assist local coach in regions to facilitate and support development players and sessions
  • Liaise with parties relating to players i.e. Local club and schools
  • Work towards developing a relationship with NT School Sports to ensure development of NT Schoolboys and Schoolgirls program.

Our ideal team member

Mandatory:

  • Recent coaching experience at an AFL club, State League senior level or elite under-age competition
  • Minimum level two coaching accreditation
  • Strong understanding of the AFL talent development program and key objectives
  • Planning and report writing skills

 
Desirable:

  • Capability to prepare player video game review footage reports
  • Established links with AFL clubs coaching and recruiting staff
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work to a set plan with key stakeholders
