AFLNT releases 2018 Barkly Australian Football League fixture

Barkly

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) today released the 2018 Barkly Australian Football League (BAFL) fixture.

With all matches being played at Purkiss Reserve in Tennant Creek, footy fans can look forward to non-stop football from Saturday 5 May through to the Grand Final on Saturday 8 September.

A new look Under 15 competition commences 5 May and features the Wangkana-Kari Crows, Eagles, Spitfires & YDU teams.

A-Grade commences on 12 May with Barkly Work Camp taking on Canteen Creek in the opening game followed by Elliott vs Eagles with reigning premiers Spitfires having the bye in Round 1.

This year the Barkly League has implemented a clause in Club Licence Agreements for all clubs to have completed a Domestic Violence Action Plan. Participating clubs have all completed these and sign off is pending with the NO MORE Campaign.

AFLNT Manager of Football and Facilities Russell Jeffrey said a lot of hard work had gone into ensuring 2018 would be a special year for footy fans in the Barkly region.

“We are pleased to release the fixture for the BAFL competitions and the game of AFL has never been more accessible to remote communities” he said.

“It’s shaping up to be a really exciting year ahead in the Barkly with AFL programs from school clinics, Auskick, Thunder Juniors, Youth Girls through to the Under 13, Under 15 and senior competition.

“Barkly juniors Liam Holt-Fitz and Matthew Green have come through these programs in Tennant Creek and are now based in Darwin progressing their footy as part of the NT Thunder Academy in what is their draft year,” Jeffrey said.
