AFLNT PROPOSES INTRODUCTION OF PLAYER POINTS SYSTEM

AFLNT PROPOSES INTRODUCTION OF PLAYER POINTS SYSTEM

AFL Northern Territory in consultation with the Northern Territory Football League Clubs is considering a replacement of transfer fees with a player points system to commence in 2013-14 Season.

Two weeks ago, AFLNT held a group consultation with NTFL Premier League Club Presidents and Coaches to outline the raft of changes and the benefits associated if the system was to be introduced.

"The consultation included a workshop with the coaches to allow them an opportunity to see how the system will be applied," advised AFLNT Football Operations Manager Darryl Griffiths.

"The key objective of the introduction of this system is to ensure the integrity and quality of the NTFL Competition remains balanced and strong during and after the removal of the Transfer Fees System."

Other key objectives identified are;

  1. To increase opportunities for junior players to reach the highest possible standard,
  2. To increase our ability to identify local talent, Northern Territory wide,
  3. To encourage local players to play NT Thunder as their choice of Tier 1 Club,
  4. To encourage player development over Fly In Fly Out players,
  5. To decrease interclub transfers, and
  6. To reduce the need for Fly In Fly Out expenditure.

"The presentation was received with a very positive attitude from the clubs, all of which can see the long term benefits of a system that supports the development of local junior players and talent identification across the Northern Territory."

Wanderers Football Club President Ben Cocker attended the meeting and sees value in the proposed system for the competition, "The Wanderers FC is currently reviewing the proposal but can see merit in the opportunities that will be provided for young Territorians to get a run in the Premier League."

NTFL Clubs have until the 31st of May, 2013 to submit feedback and suggestions to the proposed system, of which a detailed submission will be put to the AFLNT Board for ratification on 17th June, 2013.

"All feedback and suggestions will be considered given this will be a significant change in the way the clubs approach the 2013-14 season,"
