AFL 9’s is the Australian Football Leagues official modified match play version of the game. It has been developed to provide an opportunity for all Australian Football enthusiasts, as well as those new to the game, for the purpose of participating in a match play experience that has strong parallels with the traditional game. Importantly, AFL 9’s is easier to play, less physically demanding and provides an environment whereby participation, enjoyment and safety are a priority.
AFL Northern Territory will be launching the new AFL9s game at TIO stadium under lights on Wednesday August 3 from 6pm. The nine a side competition will run for nine weeks. AFL Northern Territory will be offering the following divisions in this years AFL9 season.
Men’s Division
Contact is allowed in this version which is has similar rules to the traditional 18 per side game. (Players must be at least 15 years of age)
Female Division
Contact is allowed in the female version which has similar rules to the traditional 18 per side game. (Players must be at least 15 years of age)
Mixed Division
Strictly no contact in this form of the game. Tags are used and a turn over will occur if the ball hits the ground after disposal.(players must be at least 12 years of age to play)
