AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) has formed a committee for the 2023 Hall of Fame.

The committee is chaired by former Darwin Buffaloes President and 2014 Hall of Fame inductee Bryan Moroney.

2023 Committee members include former AFLNT Board Members Andrew Gray, Territory sporting icon Bennie Lew Fatt, AFLNT historian, and author Michael Barfoot, long-serving Territory football administrators Peter Atkinson and Costa Karaolias, and sports journalist Grey Morris. Previous captain of the NT Thunder Women’s side, Lateesha Jeffrey, 2019 Hall of Fame Inductee and CAFL Stalwart Roy Arbon, and 2010 Hall of Fame inductee Mark Motlop for his significant contribution to Territory football.

The last AFLNT Hall of Fame event was held in 2019 after the inaugural event in 2010 and subsequent events in 2012 and 2014.

Moroney said the committee reflected a broad range of the football community each bringing great knowledge of the game and its history.

Nominations can be for players, administrators, umpires, media, and coaches and will require information to be submitted listing important details including years of service/games played and awards.

“We’ve seen Territory football royalty names such as Ah Mat, Bonson, Jeffrey, Long, McLean, Motlop, Rioli, McLeod, and list of inductees goes on inducted over the years, it’s really exciting to begin the process to welcome the new crop”

Nominations will officially open in January of 2023, while the date and location of the AFLNT Hall of Fame event will be announced at a later date.

Members of the public are encouraged to reach out to the committee members or AFL Northern Territory for any enquiries about nominations.
