Gorry, Couch claim Best and Fairest honours on TIO CAFL’s night of nights

Minahan

The 2022 TIO CAFL Minahan Best and Fairest Award Night was held tonight, highlighted by Federal Football Club’s Daniel Gorry and West Alice Springs Football Club’s Caitlin Couch being awarded the TIO Minahan Medal and the Yeperenye Margaret Liddle Medal respectively.

Gorry lead the medal count from round 9 when he overtook Rovers Football Club Captain Gareth Remfrey and never looked back. The Federal star finished on 20 votes, seven votes ahead of Remfrey. With Pioneer small forward Matt Campbell and South Alice key forward Daniel Stafford rounding out the top four for the evening.

Couch proved untouchable in the Margaret Liddle Medal count, claiming her second Yeperenye Margaret Liddle Medal in a row. The West Alice Springs star lead the count from the beginning to the end, finishing six votes in front of spearhead South forward Ebony Miller and ten ahead of Alkamilya standout Kaitlyn Armstrong.

The Central Desert Regional Council Williams/Pareroultja Medal count was a thriller, with Western Aranda’s Paddy Patlas edging Yuendumu goal-sneak Tyson Woods by a sole vote. Patlas passed Woods with two votes in the penultimate round of the season, holding on to claim the top prize for the Central Desert Regional Council Community Senior Men competition.

The TIO Golden Whistle, awarded to the best performing Umpire, was received by Territory Football icon Wally Gallio for his season’s efforts behind the whistle.

The budding young talent in Armani Francois was recognised for her impressive season with Rovers as she claimed the Kev Prior Rising Star Award as the best young and upcoming talent.

Town Grand Final week begins this week in Alice Springs with six Grand Finals being played at TIO Traeger Park between Wednesday 7 September and Saturday 10 September.
