Round 3 of the BRFL to recognise umpires

BRFL umpires

Umpiring Round is back this weekend in Round 3 of the Big Rivers Football League (BRFL) season. It's an opportunity for players, coaches and spectators alike to recognise the hard work and commitment shown by the BRFL umpiring group.

To celebrate Umpiring Round in the BRFL, AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) will have several activations across the weekend.

BRFL coaches and players have committed to giving umpiring a go and will take up positions on the field and in goals for some of Saturday's games.

There will also be boundary throw-in and bouncing competitions that fans can get involved in at half time of each game, with some prizes on offer to those who show the most umpiring promise.

In a special occasion, community umpires in Lajamanu will be part of a training session on Friday ahead of the community hosting its first-ever senior men's BRFL game.

AFLNT Remote Development Manager for Katherine, Gavin May said Umpires Round is about celebrating the contribution that umpires make to the game.

“So far this season we have 35 registered umpires in the BRFL group. They are an invaluable part of football, and the efforts they put in every week here in the BRFL is incredible.

"It's also fantastic to have the support of the clubs and players this round, and to see their positive attitudes and a willingness to help out and get involved," he said.
