Waratah crowned the inaugural NTFL Statewide Super Club of the Year

Paul Gross with a cheque for $7,000

Waratah has been crowned the Statewide Super Club of the Year Award for the 2018/19 TIO NTFL season, and in doing so has won a $7,000 cash prize for being the leading club in the Big Club division, as announced at Nichols Medal night.

It was Waratah’s consistent on-field results, combined with its strong club documentation and behaviour that saw it finish with 77.7 points. It’s a welcome off-field victory that comes on the back of its Women’s Premier team winning yesterday’s Grand Final.

Nightcliff finished strongly in the final weeks jumping two places from fourth to second place finishing on 59.2 points and will receive $3,000, while Wanderers took the $2,000 third prize on 48.4 points.

In the Small Club division, the Tiwi Bombers maintained the lead they had at the end of Round 16 and held on to win the $2,000 prize money on 110 points.

The Banks Bulldogs went into the final two weeks in third spot but managed to climb the ladder to take out second place on 61.7 points, and will take away $1,000 for their efforts, while the Big River Hawks finished third on 50.8 points and will receive $500.

AFLNT Manager of Community Football Rosanna De Santis said the Club of the Year Award had been a positive driver for clubs throughout the season.

“The award has seen clubs concentrate on more than just on-field results – we have seen them take proactive steps to foster positive behaviour at their club. Clubs have taken it upon themselves to write their own codes of conduct, action plans and strengthen their processes.

"Statewide Super has been a superb sponsor and we thank them for their commitment. We look forward to seeing this component of the NTFL thrive into the future,” she said.

For reference, any club with eight or more teams was put into the Big Club division, and any clubs with seven or fewer teams were put into the Small Club division for the Statewide Super Club of the Year Award.

Each division had its own prize money and the total prize pool for season 2018/19 was $15,500.
