TIO NTFL Match Review Panel: Round 12 & Stokes Appeal

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) wishes to the advise that the Appeal for the matter of Cameron Stokes of Darwin Buffaloes Football Club relating to his charge of headbutting from Round 11 will be heard this Thursday 10 January. 

It also wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed all matches played in Round 12 of the 2018/19 TIO NTFL season and the following charges have been laid in the senior divisions: 

Men’s Premier League

Darryl White, of Darwin Buffaloes Football Club, has been charged with forceful front-on contact on player number 33 of the Nightcliff Football Club in the second quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Nightcliff and Darwin Buffaloes at TIO Stadium on Saturday 5 January 2019.

Based on the video evidence available, it was the view of the panel that the incident should be classified as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

Due to an active reprimand still against his name (within 12 months) the penalty has been increased to three matches. 

In summary, White can accept a two-match penalty as an early guilty plea.

Danny Butcher, of Nightcliff Football Club, has been charged with forceful front-on contact on player number 39 of the Darwin Buffaloes Football Club in the fourth quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between Nightcliff and Darwin Buffaloes at TIO Stadium on Saturday 5 January 2019.

Based on the umpire’s report and video evidence available, it was the view of the panel that the incident should be classified as careless conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a one-match penalty.

In summary, Butcher can accept a reprimand as an early guilty plea.

James Wray, of Waratah Football Club, has been charged with forceful front-on contact on player number 4 of St Mary’s Football Club in the third quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between St Mary’s and Waratah at TIO Stadium on Saturday 5 January 2019.

Based on the umpire’s report and video evidence available, it was the view of the panel that the incident should be classified as careless conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a one-match penalty.

In summary, Wray can accept a reprimand as an early guilty plea.

Anthony Wilson, of St Mary’s Football Club, has been charged with rough conduct on player number 4 of the Waratah Football Club in the fourth quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between St Mary’s and Waratah at TIO Stadium on Saturday 5 January 2019.

Based on the video evidence available, it was the view of the panel that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Wilson can accept a one-match penalty as an early guilty plea.

Anthony Wilson, of St Mary’s Football Club, has also been charged with striking player number 20 of the Waratah Football Club in the fourth quarter of the same game on Saturday 5 January. 

Based on the video evidence available, it was the view of the panel that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and contact to the body, resulting in a one-match penalty. 

In summary, Wilson can accept a reprimand as an early guilty plea. 

Please note: In accordance with 5.2 (f) of the State and Territory Tribunal Guideline - where a player is found guilty of multiple offences from a single match, the individual penalties are added together to form the final penalty to the player. For the avoidance of doubt in this case, of a reprimand for striking (early guilty plea) and a two-match penalty for rough conduct, Wilson has been issued a two-match penalty but can accept a one-match penalty as an early guilty plea. 

Jaque Sagiba, of Tiwi Bombers Football Club, has been charged with striking player number 18 of the Palmerston Football Club in the fourth quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League match between the Tiwi Bombers and Palmerston at Tracy Village Oval on Sunday 6 January 2019.

Based on the umpire’s report, it was the view of the panel that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a two-match penalty.

In summary, Sagiba can accept a one-match penalty as an early guilty plea.

Men’s Division 1

Aiden McAdam, of Southern Districts Football Club, has been charged with striking player number 4 of the Wanderers Football Club in the fourth quarter of the TIO NTFL Men’s Division 1 match between Wanderers and Southern Districts at Gardens Oval 2 on Saturday 5 January 2019.

Based on the umpire’s report, it was the view of the panel that the incident should be classified as intentional conduct, medium impact and high contact, resulting in a three-match penalty.

In summary, McAdam can accept a two-match penalty as an early guilty plea. 

All clubs have until9pm ACST Tuesday to indicate whether the charged players accept the imposed sanctions or they wish to challenge at Tribunal.
