An experienced football administrator who oversaw a hat-trick of WAFL premierships has been appointed as AFL Northern Territory’s (AFLNT) new Umpiring Manager.
Andrew McBean will begin in the role on September 17 joining AFLNT with over 20 years’ experience in sports administration around Australia.
McBean has most recently been employed at the Peel Thunder Football Club in Western Australia as General Manager of Football Operations from 2014 - 2017.
He played a pivotal role overseeing the Football Department for the Subiaco Football Club in the mid-2000’s when the club won a hat trick of WAFL premierships under coaches, former AFL players Peter German and Scott Watters.
Prior to his time at Subiaco, McBean managed the football and development at Swan Districts Football Club and also had similar roles at the Western Australian Football Commission, AFL NSW in Sydney and Triathlon WA.
He has a Bachelor of Physical Education and a Graduate Diploma in Education and has spent time in teaching roles and is an AFL Level 2 Accredited Coach.
AFLNT CEO Stuart Totham said McBean’s football administration experience would be a great asset to the organisation and umpiring fraternity.
“Andrew’s inclusive style and fresh approach combined with strong communication and management skills will build capacity for our umpires and associated groups. He has a thorough understanding of the football industry and will hit the ground running to be ready for NTFL season,” he said.
AFLNT are currently undertaking a comprehensive umpiring review which, at its conclusion will produce a five-year strategy for the future of NT umpiring.
