AFLNT statement - Tai Martin-Page

The Northern Territory football community is feeling a deep hurt today, following the on-field incident in the opening minutes of the Wanderers vs Darwin Buffaloes Round 12 TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League Game on Saturday evening.

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT), on behalf of the family of Tai Martin-Page and the Darwin Buffaloes Football Club, wishes to advise that Tai is now receiving medical attention at the Royal Perth Hospital, after initial assessment at Royal Darwin Hospital.

A spokesperson for Royal Darwin Hospital said Tai was transferred to Perth by the Royal Flying Doctor Service in a stable condition earlier today.

Members of the Martin-Page family are already in, or en-route to Perth, to provide care and comfort to him as he undergoes treatment for a spinal injury.

They have expressed their gratitude to Tai’s teammates and the NT football community for the ongoing show of concern and support.

Those close to Tai know he is a positive, warm, and determined young man who has remained true to his character during this time.

Tai was most recently recruited by the NT Thunder Football Club and was expected to be revealed as an exciting 2018 signing in the coming days.

Darwin Buffaloes Head Coach Matt Campbell said it was a testament to Tai’s character as to how big an impact he had made in the short while that he had been in Darwin.

“From the moment I have known Tai he has impressed me with his attitude, work ethic and maturity.

“All our thoughts, hopes and prayers are with Tai and his family,” Campbell said.

AFLNT request that Tai and his family’s privacy be respected at this time.

We will provide a further update when one is available and at an appropriate time.
