2019 NAB AFLW Draft info

Flashback to 2016 AFLW Draft Day

There will be nearly 70 new players on AFL Women's team lists at the conclusion of Tuesday's NAB AFL Women's Draft, held at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne and we're hoping at least a couple of them are NT players.

While the Northern Territory is aligned with the Adelaide Crows, NT prospects were able to nominate for any of the various states and regions where they wish to be drafted. However, the NT/Adelaide Crows partnership allows for players to remain in the NT if they are drafted.

People wishing to watch the Draft can live stream it from 10:15am ACST via afl.com.au or the AFL Live app and AFL Women's app.

Other important information about the Draft:

  • There will be 10 AFLW clubs in 2019, with Geelong and North Melbourne joining Adelaide, Brisbane, Carlton, Collingwood, Fremantle, Greater, Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.
  • By the final list lodgment, each team will have 28 main list players and two cross-code rookies.
  • The Adelaide Crows have four existing NT players (or former NT players) currently on their list: Angela Foley, Jasmyn Hewett, Sally Riley and Stevie-Lee Thompson.
  • Due to the part-time nature of the competition, players have to nominate the state or region where they wish to be drafted.
  • The Northern Territory is aligned with the Adelaide Crows and Tasmania is aligned with North Melbourne, while Victoria is divided into three draft categories: Victoria (all six clubs), Melbourne metro (the five city-based clubs) and Geelong.
  • Clubs have the option of passing on their final pick if they wish to sign an undrafted player from another state as a free agent. Victorian Sarah Perkins was signed by Adelaide under this rule in 2016.
  • The draft order was decided using the reverse order of the 2018 ladder, with changes made after trades and additional picks granted to new club Geelong, which was deemed to have fewer players with AFLW experience after its initial list build.
  • There are 70 picks spread over nine rounds.

The Adelaide Crows will have picks 8, 30, 37, 41, 48 and 53. To see a full break down of each club's available picks and potential targets visit this article on the AFL website
