AFLNT STATE ACADEMY HEADS TO MELBOURNE

AFLNT State Academy heads to Melbourne this weekend
Thursday April 7 2016

The AFLNT State Academy Program is on the road to compete in the National U18 Development match and the National Women’s Exhibition Series in Melbourne this weekend.
The Thunder U18 Boys side will play Vic Metro on Saturday 9 April (12:00pm Melb time) at Ikon Park, home of the Carlton Football Club. It is the first development match for the two teams, ahead of the AFL U18 Championships in May.
The Women’s NT Thunder State Academy side has two fixtures in Melbourne this weekend. The first is a practice match against AFL Vic Academy on Friday 8 April (6:30pm Melb time) at Olympic Park Oval at the Holden Centre, which is the base of the Collingwood Football Club. Then on Sunday 10 April (12:00pm Melb time) the NT Thunder Women’s Academy will head to Peanut Farm Reserve in St Kilda to take on Tasmania as part in the AFL Women’s Exhibition Series.
AFLNT High Performance Manager, Wally Gallio said this weekend would be a real test for the NT players. “The Thunder U18 will be up against a strong outfit in Vic Metro but it will be great preparation for the national matches in May. The Women’s Thunder team have the opportunity to put their skills on display and hopefully open up the minds of selectors at the Melbourne and Western Bulldogs AFL clubs. And with the national competition in 2017 just around the corner hopefully the scouts see some long-term potential in our women,” Gallio said.
