Tiwi College claim back-to-back RYCO Cups

Tiwi College proved too strong for the Wugularr Bears in the 2013 RYCO Cup Grand Final at TIO Stadium on Friday.

The 2013 edition of the RYCO Cup provided yet another unique exposition of Territory Girls football. Encompassing 10 Under 16s teams from across the top end, teams competed at TIO Stadium on August 22nd and 23rd. With a spot in the coveted Grand Final up for grabs, all teams played a total of 6 matches across the two day period. Girls also undertook an education session with AFL Education Projects Officer Luke Brennan and Erin Ablett detailing social issues such as the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
In the end, the Grand Final was played between the two teams that remained undefeated throughout, Tiwi College and the Wugularr Bears. In a tight first half, just two points separated the teams with the islanders narrowly in front at the main change. As the game progressed, Tiwi began to take control of the match and eventually ran out winners to claim their second consecutive RYCO Cup.
Our congratulations go out to all teams and their coaches and managers on what was a successful carnival filled with passion, enthusiasm and talent and we look forward to seeing the event continue to grow and prosper in years to come.
