AFL Northern Territory today officially launched the 2011/12 Officeworks Nichols Medal to be held at SKYCITY Casino on Sunday 11 March from 5pm.
Around 300 guests are expected to attend the event celebrating the fairest and best players across all TIO NTFL divisions for the season.
Hosted by ABC Radio Weekend Sport Presenter Charlie King, the night will celebrate the rich history and tradition of Territory footy and showcase all the action and highlights of modern day heroes in the heat of battle.
The early favourites for the Nichols Medal include Tiwi Bombers duo Ross Tungatulum and Denis Dunn Medalist Gerrard Cunningham, Nightcliff duo Troy Coates and Elijah Ware and Wanderers flyer Brad Vassal.
AFLNT CEO Tony Frawley said the night was an opportunity for Territory footy to stand alone as the premier summer sporting competition in the country.
"The Officeworks Nichols Medal with its rich history and tradition of unearthing legends of our great game is a fitting way to begin the week", said Frawley.
"With such a deep pool of talent emerging across the NTFL and some great names making a return to where it all began, a new chapter in Territory footy history is sure to be written".
Officeworks Stuart Park Store Manager Brad McConnell added to Frawley’s sentiments, reaffirming their commitment to the growth and development of football across the Territory.
"Officeworks is delighted to be once again supporting the Nichols Medal, one of the truly great events on the Territory sporting calendar", said McConnell.
"Our association with AFLNT and Territory footy has been a strong one, particularly through our involvement with Thunder Juniors programs and we are committed to promoting the growth and development of footy for all Territorians".

The evening begins with pre-function refreshments at 5pm before the Nichols Medal count and distribution of awards to all divisions gets underway from 5:30pm.
