UMPIRES COME 1, 2 IN ABC HALF MARATHON

Sunday July 25 saw the NTFL Umpires kick start their recruiting campaign for the upcoming 2010-11 NTFL Season at East Point Reserve. The umpires finished with a one, two placing in the team relay at the annual ABC Half Marathon.

Two teams of umpires completed the relay; placing first was the team of Richard Waterson, Tom Harold, Mark Noonan and Dean O’ Donoghue. They completed the course in 1 hour 30 minutes and 6 seconds. They were followed closely by the second team made up of Kieth Pratt, Jim Thiele, Ashley Manicaros and Hayden Kelly with a time of 1 hour 42 minutes and 26 seconds
The umpires also had some great results in the single categories as well as the two person relay.
· Craig Blake and his mum completed the course 1 hour 32minutes and 24 seconds.
· Jeff Grey 3rd in the 40-49 category in a time of 1 hour 30 minutes and 19 seconds.
· Roy Baehnisch 7th in the 50+ category in a time of 1 hour 48 minutes and 19 seconds.
· Tony Hewlett 25th in the 40-49 category in a time of 2 hours 21 minutes and 20 seconds.
· Lisa Hewlett finished 54th in the women’s opens category in a time of 2 hours 22 minutes 00 sec.
To assist with the recruitment of more umpires the participants were on hand after the race with a table set up near the finish line. There were plenty of umpires handing flyers for their up-coming “Come & Try Umpiring Evening” on Wednesday 18th of August and showing what great benefits umpiring can bring.
