Round 3 of Quit Now Cup

Round 3 of Quit Now Cup

The action in the Quit Now Cup continued last week with St Johns again the dominant force among the schools

ROUND3 DIVISION 1 QUIT NOW CUP

Round 3
Game 1, Div 1
St Johns vs. Kormilda at TIO Stadium 26/8/09
The last game of the minor round was also the biggest on the fixture as defending premiers St Johns took on rivals Kormilda. To add more excitement to the clash the winner of the match will claim the 2009 Smoke Free Cup. The Smoke free Cup is an annual cup that St Johns and Kormilda play for each year, St John’s won the cup in 2008 and went into this match as strong favourites after 2 very impressive performances against CSC and Darwin.
The ball was in dispute for the first 5 minuets with a lot of pressure being applied by both sides. But once St John’s broke the deadlock everything seemed to go their way. One player that stood out was Ishmael palmer who booted four majors and provided lots of run and carry through the centre of the ground. Kormilda fought hard all day but just couldn’t seem to get there hands on the footy enough to create something. The game was played with Great Spirit and the contest although one sided was still a very enjoyable match to watch.
There was a crowd of more then 50 people at Tio Stadium to see the clash, with students from St John’s and Kormilda cheering in support for the sides.

Game 2, Div 1
Darwin vs. CSC at Tio #2 20/08/09
This game was called off due to other commitments for CSC, so it resulted in a 60-0 win for Darwin due to the forfeit rule.

Last time the teams met was in round one with the points going to Darwin in what was dubbed as an upset. This clash is set to be the clash of the round with both sides hungry for a final birth.
The second game will see top of the table St John’s take on fourth placed CSC, with the winner to progress through to the grand final. The two sides clashed in round one with St John’s narrowly winning.
