AFL ENDORSES LIDDY TO AFLNT BOARD

Today, Chief Executive Officer of the AFL, Andrew Demetriou, officially endorsed the appointment of Mr Ted Liddy to the board of AFL Northern Territory.

“Ted has a rich history of involvement in football and will be a great asset to our ongoing expansion of AFL into further parts of the Northern Territory,” said AFLNT Chairman Bob Elix.

Liddy, 53, was born and bred in Darwin is a nine time premiership player with St Marys Football Club played a total of 272 Northern Territory Football League games from 1975 to 1995.
He went onto to achieve Life Membership of the NTFL in 1988.

Ted went on to coach the saints for two seasons from 1998-2000 and is an Honorary Life Member of the club. He also represented the NTFL in matches against the CAFL (1984) where he was honored with captaincy as well as representing the NTFL against SANFL powerhouse Glenelg (1985), Essendon (1986) and the Sydney Swans (1987).
Liddy has experienced football beyond the borders of the Northern Territory with stints of football with Morningside in the QAFL and West Adelaide Football Club in the SANFL.
“Ted’s knowledge of local football in the Northern Territory coupled with his vast experiences in other leagues of operation around the country will serve us well when we look at how we operate,” said Elix.

Liddy is excited at the prospect of joining the AFLNT Board and is looking forward to making a difference and assisting in leading a new era in football in the Northern Territory.
“It will be good to be able to make a difference and be in a position to grow football in the Northern Territory,” said Liddy.

“Through my affiliation and local knowledge, I feel I can be of some assistance to the new direction of AFLNT.”
