The South Aussies started their campaign last Saturday at AAMI Stadium with a big win over 2009 titleholders Western Australia with several potential draftees prominent in Sam Day, Jared Polec and Brodie Smith.
South Australian Coach, Brenton Phillips, a former player with the Brisbane Bears and a Premiership Coach in the SANFL said he was looking forward to the trip to Darwin.
"This year's group has seen an unusual number of tall's, which are all mobile and athletic with the likes of Day, Gorringe and Lycett all excelling in the heavy conditions of AAMI stadium last week.
Other players to watch are Matty Rankine and Chad Wingard both indigenous lads that like to run and carry the football when they get the opportunity," Phillips said.
I am excited about bringing a group of talented young men to the top end in what should be a very demanding game of football, both in terms of the opposition and the weather aspect. SA has always had a healthy respect and a close link with the NT with a number of players from the Territory playing in the SANFL competition.
By comparison the Thunder had a rough start to their 2010 campaign with a loss to the NSW/ACT Rams at Blacktown Olympic Park a fortnight ago however Head Coach, Wally Gallio was hopeful of an improved effort from his charges.
"It is important that we approach this game with a positive mindset, there were some very good signs that came out of the last match that we can take into the South Australian game. Injury and suspension has affected the make up of the side but it gives other players a chance to play at this level" Gallio stated.
Entry to TIO Stadium is free and the game starts at 6:00pm.
