AFLNT APPOINTS NEW FOOTBALL OPERATIONS MANAGER

AFL Northern Territory is pleased to announce that Anthony Venes has been appointed to the position of Football Operations Manager.

"We welcome Anthony back to AFLNT as he was previously a Regional Development Manager with us in 2007," said AFLNT CEO Tony Frawley.

Venes left to undertake a role with Taminmin College where he established and managed a Sports Academy Program for two and half years. He has also been a volunteer, driving AFL participation in the rural areas through the NAB AFL Auskick and AFL Juniors Programs out of Southern Districts.

Venes is also the current Vice-President of Southern Districts Football Club, a position that he will soon have to forgo as condition of the new role.

"His vast knowledge of the local competition and how football works in the Northern Territory is an asset we are looking to tap into," said Frawley. "It is pleasing that by appointing a local person to the position we are able to retain local knowledge for the benefit of NT footy."

"Anthony’s first assignment will be to oversee the NTFL and TEAFA merger into the new three tier competition for the 2010/11 Season."

Venes is extremely excited about starting his new post at AFLNT and is looking forward to an extended time in the position as the head of the football department.

"I am dedicated to strengthening all aspects of the NTFL as well as other affiliate leagues and committed to ensuring they get all the support they need to continue to make AFL the top sport in the Northern Territory," said Venes.

"I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead, and I look forward to overseeing the roll out of the new three tier competition."

Venes will commence in his new role prior to the Rd 9 ‘Dreamtime in Darwin’ clash between Melbourne and Port Adelaide on May 22.
