WOMEN TO KICK OFF NTFL GRAND FINAL ACTION

The NTFL Women’s Grand Final will be the first premiership to be decided for 2009/10 season this weekend at TIO Stadium.

The St Marys and Waratah Women’s teams are set to do battle yet again, after both teams have come out on top in their respective finals matches.

The Tahs and Saints have built up a rivalry in Women’s football over the years with the Saints winning four of the last five premierships. The Waratah disrupted the march of the Saints in 2006/07 with a premiership of their own.

"I was overseas when we won that premiership in 2006/07, so I am hungry as ever to get a premiership under my belt," said Waratah Captain Mardi Jenner. "Anything can happen in finals, and we will be looking to play four quarters of hard footy which is what aim for each week."

The teams have met five times through out the regular season with the Waratah holding a three - two lead heading into the final series.

St Mary’s squared the ledger in the Semi-Finals and is now poised to tackle the Waratah yet again for their third consecutive premiership.

"It is going to come down to who wants it more," said St Marys Captain Kristy Irvine. "I think we have the necessary finals experience and the team to etch our name on that trophy again this year."

St Marys qualified first for the Grand Final by defeating Waratah in the Qualifying Final by 11 points two weeks ago.

The Waratah women then rebounded to win through to the Grand Final in wet and slippery conditions at TIO Stadium, defeating Darwin by 21 points.

Saturday will see the NTFL Women’s Grand Final played at 4:00pm on TIO Stadium as a prelude to the TIO NTFL Preliminary Final between the Tiwi Bombers and the Waratah Football Club.
